Review: ‘Killer Pad’

Posted on 30 June 2008 by Travis

I was asking for it, but I just simply couldn’t resist. When I saw the trailer for Killer Pad and that it was directed by horror legend Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger), I knew at that moment that I was required my movie geek law to view the DVD as soon as possible. Well, it wasn’t all bad …

‘Killer Pad’ is about three not-quite-as-smart-as-the-average-bear dudes that move to L.A. to find a new place to crash. When they get into town, the place they were planning on is suddenly not available due to their canine bro Ballsy, a bulldog that’s had the misfortune of accidental neutering while at the vet for grooming. Ouch! Anyway, turns out their hopeful new apartment has a “no pet’ policy. The three friends set out to find a new place and happen upon Winnie, a real estate agent that has the “perfect” place for them. When they arrive at their new home, the dudes are totally blown away … its a “killer” pad! The place is in the Hollywood Hills and is totally swanky.

Right away, the guys start making themselves at home, but discover some odd things in the basement, like a glowing red hole in the floor emitting copious amounts of heat. Immediately, these three brainiacs assume its an open sewer pipe and go about their business. A friendly, and extremely attractive neighbor (Lucy) shows up and the dudes decide they need to have a “killer” party when she suggests they have a housewarming party. Before we know it, they’ve planned a huge bash, invited all sorts of interesting characters and everyone’s having a Helluva good time … until people start turning up dead.

As you may have guessed, the hot overly-friendly neighbor Lucy (Emily Foxler) is not all she appears to be. Turns out she’s the devil him/herself and her two hot friends are her demonic minions. The movie is actually kind of fun and silly up until the ending when Lucy and her minions revert to their true identities and the events get kind of stupid silly. ‘Killer Pad’ has a cameo appearance by the one and only Joey Lawrence (Whoa!) and boasts some big claims about being one of the first fully digital (no film) feature-length movies being made. [You can hear Robert Englund talk all about this in the 'making of...' featurette.]
